ACTIVITIES

Since inception, the organization has been working to get fulfilled our 8 point chartered demands.

  1. To enlist the Kalita tribe in the list of Scheduled Tribes under the Article 342 and to provide the provision of Sixth Schedule prepared on the basis of Article 244(2) and 275(1) of the Indian Constitution.
  2. To build the “Bhagadatta Prakalpa” centrally in Guwahati for preservation of Cultural Heritage of the Kalita Community, we urge upon the State Government of Assam to allot land and necessary financial grant.
  3. We demand to form a Development Council exclusively for the Kalitas for their development of Economic Condition.
  4. We urge upon the Government to introduce Dr Banikanta Kakati Chair in both the Universities namely Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University with a view to honor the erudite scholar of Assam.
  5. The Bridge between Jalukbari and Amingaon which is under construction over the river Brahmaputra to be named as “Bir Bhagadatta Setu”.
  6. The Bagibil Bridge which is under construction over Brahmaputra be named as “Martyr Maniram Dewan Setu”.
  7. T P Tewary Commission Report to be implemented soon.
  8. There must be provision to include at least one representative of Kalita community in each of the Autonomous Councils by the Government of Assam.

(a) In this connection the organization submitted memoranda to the President of India, the Governor of Assam and the Chief Minister of Assam from time to time for fulfillment of the demand of the organization.

(b) A memorandum was also submitted by the organization to the Chief Minister of Assam to get relief and to rehabilitate the landless Kalita people who were to lose their land due to Natural Calamities and their Economic Conditions.

(c) In the Year 2006, a memorandum submitted to the Commissioner of Economical Backward Commission in the Guwahati Camp demanding the development of the economically weaker section of the Kalita.

As per the decisions taken at the Convention held in Guwahati on 21st June 2015, the organization has taken the following steps :

(i) A memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam through DCs, SDOs, SDCs regarding our demands fulfillment after holding three hours Stage Dharnas in all the districts of Assam on 8th July 2015.

(ii) On 21st July 2015 the organization has submitted memorandum to the Prime minister of India  and the Governor of Assam through DCs, SDOs, SDCs, holding processions by the district committees in the district level of the Kalita Janagosthi Sanmilan, Assam to fulfill the demands of the organization.

(iii) To press the Central Government to fulfill the first demand of the Kalita Community, a Six member delegation headed by the President Dr Soneswar Kalita, met the Central Tribal Affairs Minister Juel Oram, Home Minister for State       Kiren Rijiju, Youth and Sports Minister (Indp.) Sarbananda Sonowal and the Register General of India and submitted a Memorandum. The delegation met all the MPs of Assam and discussed the demands on 27th, 28th and 29th July, 2015.

(iv) The members of the Kalita Janagosthi from all the districts of Assam met together and staged Dharna in the Last Gate, Guwahati during the Assembly Session on 11th August and 8th December 2015.

(v) On invitation by the Chief Minister of Assam a five member delegation of the Janagosthi met the Chief Minister of      Assam and discussed the granting of ST Status and provision of Sixth Schedule for Kalita Janagosthi, Land allotment with financial grant to build Bhagadatta Prakalpa centrally at Guwahati, Development Council to the Kalita Janagosthi.

(vi) On February 4th, 2016 again staged a Dharna by the members of the Kalita Janagosthi in the Last Gate, Guwahati to press the Government to fulfill our demand.

(vii) As per the advice of the Chief Minister of Assam the Janagosthi submitted an Application and a Report related to the demand for granting ST status, to the WPT & BC for having a no objection resolution from the Government.

(viii) On 9th March, 2016 a five member delegation of the Janagosthi headed by the President Dr Soneswar Kalita met the Home Minister of India and submitted the memorandum related to the  demand for granting ST status and the Sixth Schedule provision to the Kalita Janagosthi.
